SAVE THE DATES: FMHA Film and Lecture Series – Initial 2018 Presentations

Saturday, January 27th: German POWs in America
German POWs captured in North Africa, Sicily and Italy were transferred to internment camps throughout the U.S., including 10 in Delaware. This presentation will focus on the camps in Delaware, including Fort Miles and the main camp at Fort DuPont. A POW painting recently loaned to FMHA by a former Fort Miles PBX operator, Lydia Wagamon, creates a Sussex County connection to this little known story of the German soldiers interred in our back yard.

Saturday, February 24th: Operation Drumbeat: German U-Boats in America
U-Boat attacks off the east coast of the U.S. were much more deadly than known by most Americans. This program will focus on German U-Boats U-123 and U-166. U-123 attacked shipping near Rehoboth Beach DE in January, 1942.

Saturday, March 24th: U.S. Marines – The Battle for Iowa Jima
Though well known for the iconic photograph of the U. S. Marines raising the flag at Iowa Jima, the importance of this victory is often overlooked as it related to the ultimate Japanese surrender.
